Hair seemed to find its way into every nook and cranny of my house, clinging to my clothes and making cleanup a never-ending chore. But, with this machine, grooming has become a breeze. Personally, depending on the season, I tend to stick to three of the shorter guards. • For her body, the 12mm guard provides just the right length.
• As for her face and beard, I either use scissors for precision or, if I’m feeling bold, I go guard-free and shape her face as I like. Although, I must admit, it’s a bit of a risky move if she decides to move around.

Emptying the hair container is a breeze. Just open it up and dump the collected hair right into the garbage – no fuss, no mess. It’s incredibly convenient and fast. During Capri’s grooming session, I found myself emptying it once in the middle, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much hair it can hold. A good indicator that it needs emptying is when you start finding hair on the ground instead of in the container. So, keep an eye out, and when you spot stray hairs, it’s probably time to give the container a quick empty.

Learning To Use The Grooming Kit

After watching countless YouTube videos, I decided to take the plunge and give it a try myself. I figured, what’s the worst that could happen? If she ends up looking a bit funny, I can always take her to the groomers to fix it up. No big deal!

How Often Does Capri Get Groomed?

I typically groom her every 2 months, and luckily, her hair doesn’t grow too quickly. However, during the summer months when she tends to get warmer, I find myself giving her more frequent trims. I absolutely love her long hair, so cutting it is always a bit of a bittersweet task for me!

In terms of grooming routine, I have a bit of a system. I usually take Capri to a professional groomer every third time, which comes to about every 6 months. I found a great recommendation for a groomer from other dog owners at the dog park. Its another great reason why I love talking with others at dog parks, they have be so helpful! When I’m the one doing the grooming, I call it a “quick grooming,” meaning it’s not perfect by any means, but it gets the job done for the time being. A trip to the groomer typically costs around $75 plus a tip and takes about 2 hours, which isn’t too bad. Capri weighs about 30-35 pounds, depending on the season.

Now, for those in-between grooming sessions, I rely on pet grooming clippers for quick touch-ups around her butt area and paw pads as needed. Additionally, I’ll use scissors to trim around her eyes when her hair starts to get a bit too long.
